I dream about taking a few years off from a regular job and having an online job while I zip around the country in a vintage Airstream trailer. Have others managed to stay connected and actually get their online work done? Or am I just dreaming?

Hi, I'm sure it can be done, but don't rely on public or campground WIFI.

I was hoping the campground WIFI would be a possibility because my uncle's WIFI is so good at his campground. Then again, he's really into computers so he has probably paid more for those services than the normal campground owners. Thanks for the tip, Robert!
Hi, my experiences with camp ground WIFI has been mixed. Most of them are weak and poor, as bad or worse that dial-up service. Some have been acceptable and a few were actually fast. Many times after typing along letter, when I hit send, it went into outer space to never be seen again. Then I had to type a very short version and hope it would make it. Some of my posts were shut off when I tried to post a few pictures. I had to use the WIFI in the laundry room, in the main office, and on the porch of the office while being eaten alive by mosquito's. One very honest person told me that the time and location that it was necessary to use their WIFI so it would work; Most everyone else told me their WIFI was great when it wouldn't work at all. I complained at few places and they reset their units and then it would work, but not good. If you are depending on using it for a job, you need to buy your own plan from your favorite provider.

We just returned from a stay at an eastern NC campground. While I was there I checked out the WIFI connections, too, even though I didn't really need to be on the computer. After a couple of half-hearted attempts, I gave up. RobertSunrus is right. Don't depend on having ready access for your online business.
With all of the places that offer free WiFi, like restaurants and cafes, you should never have a problem connecting. Of course, you will not have the peace and quiet that you need there. If not, most campgrounds have internet. You might just have to pay a small fee.
Some places haven't embraced technology like they have in more populated areas of the country. In our area, many stores and restaurants have had trouble keeping their doors open, so it does pay to call ahead to make sure you'll have satisfactory access. We experienced a road trip recently and ran into problems
