Not an AS but close... Truck Camper

Hi, I am just joining up since the AS and the Avions are very similar. I purchased a Avion C-10 truck camper last week, and it is basically a shell. I intend on restoring in in a way, but updating the appliances and comforts, but hopefully keep the old world charm. It was sold as a 1969, but after much research, I believe it is either a 1966 or 67, I hope to talk to the Cayo Brothers soon, who is the family who started the Avion company. I am interested in talking to anyone and everyone who has ideas for the resto-mod. Things that make these old campers more usable, since we plan on using it here in Kodiak Alaska where we live, and for trips to the mainland of Alaska, and later beyond. Thanks again for a great resource for the classic aluminum campers!

I just spoke to Cayo Repair Service, and they said my camper is either a very late 1965 or an early 1966.

Yes I love to go fishing. We are waiting for the reds to start moving into the island. Halibut are biting, but they are still real deep. Dolly Varden are biting in the rivers and streams, and a few have been catching some winter kings trolling.
I'll try to post some fishing pics from last summer later this evening.

    Thanks again for the welcome!

Well here are a few pics.... Of Kodiak Alaska!
    Welcome to Kodiak!

Kodiak is famous for the Kodiak Brown Bear

When the salmon are running, they can get really thick in the rivers. Just look at the water boil with all the salmon!

When you can catch some, this is what they look like!

If you have a boat like ours, you can get to some of the more remote areas!

When my son and I went Halibut fishing, and he caught this really nice halibut, we also got a wave from the crew of this famous boat as they were cruising to town for fuel and provisions!

If you would rather catch Pacific Cod, then you can catch loads of them! We caught 42 in just 3 hours of fishing! But then the work of filleting came...ugh...

If you would rather watch birds then you can watch these guys all year long!

If you like bigger Halibut, my co-worker's son caught this beauty on my boat on a rainy July day.

If you like really big halibut, my brother borrowed the boat one day, and all they came back with was one fish......

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Kodiak, please let me know what you all think!

    Very nice.
Thanks very much for the tour and for being gracious in sharing.
    [hope there's more...]

    That definitely qualifies as fishing.

Approx how much do the Halibut & Salmon weigh in these photos?
[just looking for a general idea]

Recognize the Time Bandit for sure and great image of the Eagle.

    Do you know this place?
    Alaska - Barrow!

The Largest salmon (top left) was a 37" long 37lb King Salmon
The Halibut my son caught was about 50lb
The halibut caught on the rainy day was about 125lb
And the grand-daddy was 6' 4" long, and weighed 225lbs
That particular Eagle I took the picture in Homer, while awaiting the ferry. But Kodiak has tons of Eagles.
I'll try to post more as the summer progresses, as we get out and catch some more fish for the freezer.

Garry. Your truck camper is fantastic.
Are you thinking about polishing the exterior?

Alaska is very popular on English television, we have a number
of unmissable TV programmes which show the beauty and ruggedness
    of the wilderness.

The Alaskans and their cultue also comes across very well.

Keep the camper and fishing pics coming!

Avion made their campers and most of the trailers from Anodized Aluminum, so polishing is a non-starter. I plan on cleaning real well and waxing to bring out the luster and shine.
