    Cargo trailer fell off truck

We were driving back up from Washington DC, and suddenly, we lost our cargo trailer. It fell straight into the BQE! Luckily no one was hurt and we got it reconnected to the truck. We had to find a hitch somewhere to get it back on. A leather belt wrapped around there could really go a long way!

Glad you clarified the BQE That must have been a very trying experience and glad that no one was hurt or any real damage was done. You were lucky about that. Things like that can really ruin a trip.

Yup. When we were driving back, this occurred on the BQE. The worst part is there's no shoulder and we had to take up a lane of traffic to get the thing back on. Luckily a fella came to help us reattach it. But it fell off AGAIN and we had to commandeer someone's hitch

That would have to be very scary to see! It's really a miracle that nothing worse happened. I would probably have caused an accident by swerving to get out of the way.

Hi, what am I missing? How can a trailer just fall off of the ball/hitch? [twice?] And where were the safety chains?

You are very lucky no one got hurt. Did you have safety chains on the trailer? If not, get some and hopefully this won't happen again.
