Flag Holder Mounting
Here is a suggestion for mounting flag holders on trailer jack tubes. It comes via email from Dave Brett, WBCCI # 1315,
of the Mahoning Valley Ohio Unit: “Region 4 is encouraging its members to display their flags at every rally. My trailer had
only a single flag holder, so I decided it was time to upgrade. The old holder did not interfere with the electric cable on the jack,
but the clamps on the new holder do.
My solution was two-fold. First I ground a shallow notch in each of the clamps where the cable would travel.
Second I cut shims out of a piece of heavy duty plastic pipe (see photo). The shims were placed between
the clamps and the jack tube at the back of the tube. To get a thick enough wall on the pipe, I used a 4 inch diameter pipe.
The radius didn’t match that of the jack tube, but the nice thick walls spaced the clamp off the jack tube so that the clamp did
not crush the cable (see photo). By the time I tightened the clamps, the plastic had enough give to form to the jack tube just
fine.”
