Sealing a replacement panel

I am replacing a small panel on the side of my trailer. Can someone tell me what is the proper way to seal (or not) the verticle edges of the new panel. The rivet pattern is approximately 2" on center and I was thinking a thin layer of vulkem between the new panel and existing panel might do the job. Any advice is appreciated.

That would be correct procedure.
Can you post a few photos of the hole and patch?
Maybe a before and after? What shape?
I'll have to see if I can scrounge up some photos of
patchwork from past endeavors.
